Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney is a legal instrument delegating legal authority to another person, giving authority to another person to make financial, property or other decisions for the principal. This person can have broad or limited authority.  When the principal isn’t present to sign legal documents, or when the principal becomes ill or disabled, the power of attorney is used.  A power of attorney enables a principal in advance to decide who shall make the important decisions, financial and business, in the future, and to appoint a guardian to handle the principal’s affairs.

 

A power of attorney is usually chosen as a trusted family member, proven and trusted friend, or a professional known for honesty. More than one person can be appointed.
